So Matt, he of five and a half months, can sit up somewhat, has started eating, and discovered at daycare the joy of exersaucers.

Exersaucers replaced walkers after those horrific stories of kids rolling down stairs in them and the like. They keep the baby stationary, but upright, and he can spin in a circle playing with different toys. This keeps the baby both occupied and, theoretically, safe.

With him getting close to 15 pounds, his weight is making the bouncer droop significantly, so we've been looking for something else to put him in while we have to do things.. like cook. He'd be in the kitchen where we could see him, but he wouldn't be bored and wouldn't gget into trouble.

Well we decided, after much hemming and hawing, to go with the Kolcraft 2 in 1 Exersaucer/Walker even though he enjoyed the toys more on the Baby Einstein one. Why this one? Because when a baby starts moving on their own (usually 7-9 months) you're supposed to take these things away because it can interfere with their development. This would have given us a little extra time of usage because the walker portion (a walk behind style one so the child can see their legs). Oh yeah.. and these things cost around 80 bucks.

After getting the (very large) box home last night and attempting assembly (it's not easy). We discovered that the walker portion has no resistance to it at all, even on carpet. So if a child were to use it, they'd better be able to completely balance on their own. Any leaning on the walker for support is completely useless. It would just roll with you.

So, we've decided to return that one, and we're debating the exersaucer idea again. Is it worth 80 or 90 bucks for 3-4 months of use? I'm not sure....
