Okay.. I've not posted in a while, but I've got a bunch to say, and i'll try and get them in over the course of the week.

Matthew has/had RSV, a nasty little URI which I recommend you don't get. It is highly contagious, so he spent all of last week at home. Though he did decide to share it with my wife and myseif.

He also started having several episodes of diarrhea a day which has led our pediatrician to believe that he has a secondary Roto-Virus infection. It might be Rota, I'm not quite sure.

Anyway, so he's going to be home all this week too. So of the first three weeks of the new year, two will be spent at home, and one at daycare. Urgh.. money well spent.

Anyway the reason why I'm writing this one was because of an event this morning.

At 6 AM, Matthew woke up after being laid down not long before. At least I think so, I had slept through it to this point. My wife nudged me saying, "I'll give you money if you take him for ten minutes." Normally it's her job in the mornings, mine in the evenings, but I woke up, so I wasn't going to complain too much.

The night before, I had a rough time getting Matt to sleep. He hasn't learned to fall asleep on his own (we were going to start this month but he got sick) and therefore you have to rock/bounce/walk with him to get him to nod off. It doesn't take too long, but you still have to do it.

Well last night he was not in the mood for being held. He wanted to be on the floor, laying flat on his back. I let him do this for awhile and eventually he did settle down, but it was very odd for him.

So this morning, when I stumbled into the nursery, somewhat bleary eyed, and he once again didn't calm down when I picked him up, I immediately set him on the floor. And he began rolling on his side.

He's done this a few times before, but sort of unintentionally. He was either doing it on reflex from discomfort or sort of "ended-up" on his side without realizing how he got there.

Infants can't roll on their sides like we do. They don't have the muscle control. So instead what they do is, while laying on their backs, kick their legs up in the air and use that weight to pull them over. It's a cute flailing action that always makes me smile.

This time however, he did it on purpose. And I know he did. I applauded him when he did it, so he then rolled back onto his back and did it again! I again cheered him on and he returned to his back and rolled to his other side! You can probably guess where this is going.

Aside from a couple of times where he would turn his head to see my reaction before making it all the way over and falling back, he did this for a good twenty minutes. I was very very happy.

I'm glad I have a job, I'm glad I contribute to society, but I do miss my son too.
Well my wife called a few moments ago and said that Matt seemed to be faring better. There's a chance he'll be able to go back to daycare, if not tomorrow, then Thursday. That's good, healthy Matt is better than unhealthy Matt.

Though it does mean I won't have Friday with him..
