But I am getting some sleep. At least I did last night.

Monday Night, Matthew would not sleep. He's been increasingly uncomfortable when we lay him down in the evenings. While he's fine most of the rest of the day, at night he stirs almost immediately after being laid down in his crib. It's not enough to worry us into calling the pediatriction before his two month appointment on Friday, but still troubling.

He finally knocked off around midnight in his crib. He had fed about 11 or so and had only taken about half of his bottle then, meaning he might wake up in a half an hour to an hour, so I stayed up fiddling on the computer figuring he'd start crying any second.

About four in the morning I gave up. Thankfully I didn't have to go to work the next day.

Yesterday we went on an outing to Towson. my wife's sister gave her a pedicure for her birthday and my wife wanted to return the favor as a baby shower gift. So the two of them went and got them, finally. Matthew and I went Christmas shopping. The Towson Town mall has changed a lot, and not for the better. The stores are more apparel oriented and less gift oriented. I suppose that's better for every day shopping, but the seasonal utility is really down.

I suppose, in certain respects, that's the sign of the times. There's an article in this week's Time Magazine how traditional toys are suffering a slow death as younger and younger kids pick up video games. I know I played them early, first on an Atari 2600 at a day care place when I was about 6 or so, but I still played with legos, blocks, and action figures well into the middle school years.

It makes me wonder what kind of toys Matthew will play when he's a child. I know we're not going to completely shield him from video games, it's too hypocritical to do so. But we'll need to make sure he gets time with blocks, and legos, and action figures, and going out to play with friends too. This is going to be a complex issue.

Will, by the time Matthew's ten, or maybe his children, kids not go out to play with friends, but go online? Barring the Republican's continued success in rolling back environmental protection laws, I doubt that'll be the case, but I suspect he'll make friends from far away a lot earlier than I ever did.

Last night, he crashed out in the swing while I was watching House, fun show, you should watch it, and I tried to lay him down again but he wouldn't settle in the crib. I set him in the car seat, a more vertical position, and he slept more or less comfortably. I hope that he'll be able to sleep on his back soon, we'll see. I got to bed about midnight, though that wasn't Matthew's fault. That's my City of Heroes addiction.

He didn't wake up until 7:30! That's about ten hours of sleep! Though he stirred every so often during that time. And my wife laid him down in the crib this morning to play a bit and he was just fine. It seems he only has real problems on his back at night. Not sure what's up.

Of course my body has suddenly recognized sleep again and said, "You need that!"

Stupid body.
