I love my friends and all but....
Sep. 20th, 2004 02:05 pmI love my friends and all but.. when the first thing you hear on every single phone call you make is, "Is [my wife's name]still pregnant? Is she in labor?" You kind of wonder whether or not you're going to make it till the actual birth.
To be honest, I knew having a child was going to, at least partially, take over my life and that of my wife. I never realized just how much it occupies my friends' time as well.
As an example, this morning I ran late to work for a couple of reasons. One I had to drop my dog, Xandra, off at the groomers for a haircut. Then traffic on 95 was horrible. I walk in about 8:30, about an hour later than usual, but only a half hour after my actual "on-time" time. Still my friend is storming through the office asking everyone if I had my baby. (EDIT) Per insistence of said co-worker, I am supposed to indicate that she, herself, has an 8 month-old of her own and therefore is in full baby mode 24/7. Thus it is only natural that she think "baby-first".
Leaving aside the issue of who is physically having this baby, I wonder why people are waiting with such baited breath to find out if this baby is coming. Both my wife and I are well past the point of "Get this baby out of me/her", but we're the ones having it. And if there is one person at work I'd tell, other than my direct boss, that the baby was coming, it would be this co-worker.
But I guess babies are exciting. I just never realized my own would cause this much excitement.
