Well we got the front seeded, fertilized, and watered. We got a portion of the back done as well.

I am highly skeptical of this actually working. But it's worth a shot.

My wife, perhaps not realizing how personally bothered I am by the yard's condition, described the front as mangy.

She's not wrong, but that doesn't mean it doesn't hurt.

Don't expect instant results. You'll probably see some rye grass coming up in a few days. Rye grass grows very fast but isn't exactly stalwart. August will probably burn a good bit of it out and the rest won't make it through the winter. The other grasses in your seed mix take much longer to germinate so they might not really fill in for a couple years but they're much hardier.

Don't lose hope.

Wow. How do you know so much about grass?

I build houses. We deal with new lawns a lot.

I think it has been perhaps far too long since I have caught up with you.
