This post is sure to get
hjude44 up in arms
There are great songs out there, and then there are songs that would be great but have something wrong with them. These are songs other people
think are great, but they're just wrong.
Two that come to mind for similar reasons are Derek & the Dominoes
Layla and U2's
Where the Streets Have No NameLayla features two distinct, both individually strong, movements but the two together don't create the expected synergy. In the end, the "piano coda", just feels tacked on and lessens the overall impact. Meanwhile on
Streets would be a more powerful song, were it not weakened by a synthesizer-chorale opening that goes on for a full minute before anything else comes in. Too much over the top production hurts its cause.
Sorry, I was in the van this afternoon and heard the opening chorale of
Streets and turned away before it got to the opening because it just took too long.
I wonder how big
Xandrapolis has to get before
the planning committee will add a radio station.
