Speaking of Firefly
Jan. 9th, 2006 02:33 pmI just finished watching the series on DVD. Thanks to
zesh for lending them to me.
I enjoyed them, though I still think the exec who greenlighted this series was clinically insane. This is not to say the series was bad. It was quite good, in fact. But fans of Sci-Fi and Westerns are largely mutually exclusive, not to mention dismissive of their counterparts. This series decided to try and bridge that gap.
Did it successfully do that? Yup
Did anyone pay attention long enough to notice? Nope
If there were any failures on Mutant Enemy's part, it was that they got too far into the mystery too quickly. You needed to know too much about River so that you couldn't pop in and pick up the series easily. Yes, it would have helped if the series was show in the intended order. But they were still too reliant upon past episodes, in certain respects, to make it a show one could pick-up in the middle.
Of the episodes, I liked three the best. Those were Trash,The Message, and Objects in Space. The first two were never shown on television and it's quite a shame.
