Very sick baby...
Jan. 9th, 2005 12:14 pmWhen we woke up this morning, Matthew seemed a bit warmer than usual. So we took his temperature. Rectally it was 101.4. A fever, but not ridiculously so. Since at our last appointment they said to call for guidance on giving him tylenol in case this happened, we contacted our pediatrician's office.
The on call physician found out that Matt's three months old and ordered us off to the emergency room. This is the first time Matt has gone back to the hospital since he was born and, to be honest, this was a rather pleasant experience. The emergency room was nearly empty and we were quickly dispatched back to emergency pediatrics.
Well the physicians took a look at Matthew and decided to run a couple of tests. There was no blood drawing involved, but they did suction his nose using something significantly more powerful than a handheld nose aspirator. Matt didn't seem to like that much.
But, to be honest, he seemed pretty cheerful while he was there. Indeed a few of the nurses stopped by to see the "happy baby". He's become quite a charmer, I really can't complain.
However the tests came back with Matt being positive for the RSV virus. It's sort of a nastier Upper Respiratory Infection where you're full on sick for a week to a week and a half, and then have bronchitis for a couple weeks after. Sigh...
Did I mention that he has decided to share it with us?
Oh yes, and it's HIGHLY contagious for the duration of the cold symptoms. Guess who's not going to work this week?
