Humans are funny people. Like Metatron said in Kevin Smith's Dogma when asked what God was like:

"God? Lonely. But funny. He's got a great sense of humor. Take sex for example. There's nothing funnier than the ridiculous faces you people make mid-coitus."

And that's not the only funny thing about people. One of them is the issue of labor. (Important note: My wife has NOT, I repeat NOT, gone into labor at this time). Labor can start with one of two things. Roughly 90% of women go into contractions to start their labor. These painful muscle contractions are regular and don't go away by lying down, drinking water etc.

They are the lucky ones.

The other 10% have their water break first. If they're fortunate, they may get a pair of pants (and underwear obviously)wet and that's about it. However, if your water breaks while you're in bed, or in a car. Then things can be a bit more hairy. It can result in needing to replace a mattress, or a hefty cleaning bill for a car seat.

Hence you take precautions. For a car seat that means putting down a trash bag with a towel on top of it. That's pretty simple. You can do that easily and, well, you're in one place. You know, if your water breaks in the car, that you'll have it happen there.

However, if it happens in bed. Well a bed's a big thing, and I'd still like to have my wife snuggle up to me in the morning, even if the baby does tend to kick me from inside her.

So you solve this problem by putting a shower curtain on the bed, along with some towels for cushioning. It works very well. Well, we presume it does (after all NO labor yet). But well.. it's really noisy. Every movement you make on the bed results in this really funny sound. And since Xandra sleeps on the bed, every time she moves, it makes the noise as well.

You can sleep, but you just want to giggle a little because of it. Here's to hoping we're in the 90% category anyway....
