This evening, at bed time, Matthew held his first honest-to-goodness five minute plus "Why"-fest. It primarily had to do with him not wanting to go to bed, but wandered into why Mommy was also going to bed (sick), why he couldn't sleep in Mommy's bed, why Mommy couldn't sleep in his bed, why Daddy wasn't going to sleep at all, and so on and so forth.

Eventually we got down to "why" he couldn't go for a ride. I told him that he could go for a ride in his dreams and he asked how to do that.

You close your eyes and you think about going for a ride.

Fastest he's gone to sleep in weeks.

Ahhh...

Nothing half so effective at pointing out the frequently nonsensical
arbitrary nature of reality as a bright young child,
except perhaps Hume.
Nothing half so effective as Hume, or a bright young child,
and maybe Monty Python...
Really if one needs to see how frequently nonsensical and arbitrary
life can be...

way cool...

Perfect answer, Dad! And one of the funniest 'kid stories' I think I ever heard. You have a really cool son!
