As evidenced by Katie Couric, Sarah Palin is unable to name any Supreme Court Case other than Roe v. Wade.

The Rules: Post info about ONE Supreme Court decision, modern or historic to your lj. (Any decision, as long as it's not Roe v. Wade.) For those who see this on your f-list, take the meme to your OWN lj to spread the fun.

One I haven't seen yet is Marbury vs Madison, which established the precedent of judicial review.

Quoting the wikipedia entry for the details:

This case resulted from a petition to the Supreme Court by William Marbury, who had been appointed as Justice of the Peace in the District of Columbia by President John Adams shortly before leaving office, but whose commission was not delivered as required by John Marshall, Adams' Secretary of State. When Thomas Jefferson assumed office, he ordered the new Secretary of State, James Madison, to withhold Marbury's and several other men's commissions. Being unable to assume the appointed offices without the commission documents, Marbury and three others petitioned the Court to force Madison to deliver the commission to Marbury. The Supreme Court denied Marbury's petition, holding that the statute upon which he based his claim was unconstitutional.

Can you tell it's a slow morning at work? I responded to [livejournal.com profile] morgeil on this one and never gave my response. Here it is

Comment on this post. I will choose seven interests from your profile and you will explain what they mean and why you are interested in them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so others can play along.

[livejournal.com profile] morgeil asked about the following:

anime - Shockingly, this actually predates [livejournal.com profile] darkwingjhu. My first memories of anime, though I didn't have that term or even japanimation in my head at the time, were waking up early on mornings in the late 70s to catch Star Blazers. From there I moved on to Tranzor Z, Voltron, and Robotech. The first time I caught something really thinking the term anime was probably Fist of the North Star in High School. Nowadays my wife, who was hooked by [livejournal.com profile] darkwingjhu, and I watch a lot of serials. Currently we're watching Black Cat and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

blues music - A small part of this came from my parents, but, perhaps like all children of my generation, my primary interest in blues music came from The Blues Brothers. It introduced me to many famous artists from blues' history and my collection has extended both backwards and forwards as I love just sitting there and listening.

roleplaying games - Let's see, I played my first RPG of Dungeons & Dragons when I was.. oh.. eight or nine maybe. I created a halfling (it's a class dammit!) named Hasscotch. But to be honest, I didn't really get into RPGing until I came to college and joined HopSFA.

gilmore girls - Despite their incorrect spelling, they do share my last name and I love witty banter. This series contains one of my favorite lines ever, which I'll paraphrase, "It was just like the first twenty-five minutes of Saving Private Ryan, except they got to go to France!"

freedom of speech - I picked this one up during one of the LJ censorship flaps. But if you're going to ask me which one, I can't recall. Obviously though, I support freedom of (truthful) speech.

tilly and the wall They're a band I heard about on NPR that doesn't have a percussionist. Well aside from the tap dancer. Lots of fun

kungfu - Aside from the films that my wife and I enjoy, during the early 2000s my wife and I joined a wushu school here called Jow Ga Kung Fu. The sifu is a former marine/now county police officer and a great guy who concentrates more on teaching than on selling tests or belts for advancement. It was a great way to keep fit before we had Matthew.
