Phrases that affect you....
Jul. 12th, 2007 03:10 amA.K.A. Why Jeff, what the hell are you doing up so early?
It's dark in there.
It was amazing hearing my son say those words about an hour ago. He'd woken up in the middle of the night and came into our room. I picked him up, he snuggled against me and I asked him if he needed to go potty. He said, "yes," and then promptly started going in his diaper.
Ah.. parenthood.
Anyways, I brought him into the bathroom to give him a chance to finish up on the toilet, then gave him a fresh diaper, and then asked him if he was ready to go back to bed.
It's dark in there..
And with that my heart leapt/fell. ( It's a complicated emotion )
I told him that it was alright to be scared and Nemo was protecting him. He sat there for a moment, clearly pondering what I said, and then snuggled up to me again. He asked if he could sleep in "daddy's bed," and I really couldn't say no. I finally now knew what was wrong. After tossing and turning for about 40 minutes, I picked him up and brought him into his room. He stirred again so I sat with him in the chair for a bit and eventually he nodded off again.
Only to wake up when the door squeaked on my way out. He only asked for the hall light to be turned on though. I can accept that.
