Hmm.. that's not quite right. But that's what happens when you watch
March of the Penguins and To Catch a Thief in quick succession. I enjoyed both of them.

March of the Penguins is pretty much a extraordinarily good National Geographic Special. But I like watching those and, considering what the filmmakers had to go through to get the footage they did, a remarkable piece of work. ****

To Catch a Thief is a good old fashioned Hitchcock movie but, sadly, one that we saw the twists for coming a mile away. Actually, I shouldn't quite say that. For once I anticipated the correct ending before my wife did. Usually she's so much better at that than I am. But it's always fun to watch Cary Grant act, even if he's just playing Cary Grant, so I can't complain. ***

I finally finished Neil Gaiman's Anansi Boys, which took a lot longer than it should have.

Call it the pitfalls of fatherhood and an MMORPG habit. It took me a while to get going in the book, and I'm not really sure why. I just had problems getting it started. It didn't flow well for me. The second half is, not literally, a different story. I ripped through it in an evening. Ultimately it's the tale of a son who finally learns to embrace his father's legacy and, in doing so, steps out of said father's shadow.

Of course, when your father is a god, it's a little harder for him than most.

But it, like last year's Doctor Who episode Father's Day I think it really does hit me a bit more now than it would have before Matthew.

It's really funny how I both hope not to, and yet, also to be an occasional embarassment to my son. It's kind of funny. I don't want to be a total dork who doesn't get whatever "it," happens to be when my son is older, but I do want him to occasionaly have to accept me, just the same way I will happily accept him, regardless of those independent foibles I know he'll develop.

Next up, gaming fiction... ugh..
