The pediatrician visit this morning, which should have been his actual first visit, went well, he's up to 6lbs 10 oz (an improvement of 3 oz from his low point on Monday) which is a good sign. Plus his yellowness is continuing to fade. He should pull through nicely. My friend Max came down this morning to help with keeping track of Matthew while I sent my wife's Mom home to get some rest and a shower in her own house. I really appreciate all she has done for us. We could not have made it through this stretch without her.

I learned that my wife watched the MLB playoffs while I was home last night. Apparently it made her feel like I was there with her. There was also a nurse on duty who was a huge Red Sox fan and kept checking into her room to see what the score was. The nursing care at the hospital, both at the first visit and the second one, has been wonderful. We've met some really nice people there.

Anyway, it took until the early evening for the anesthesiologist to come and perform the procedure. As noted before, it involves pulling 20 ccs (ml) of blood and injecting it into the spinal column. The more blood you can put in, the higher the chance of success.

My wife is a real trooper. Though she's only 5'2" she managed to stay strong until they got all 20 ml into her. I'm really proud of how she's handled this. It's been difficult for her. She was unable to see her son yesterday and most of today, and she can't pick him up, just in case the spinal patch pops. So she's been left to accepting me as her manservant. It's hard for her to be unable to give her son everything he needs. But I'm sure that in a couple days she'll be back into the swing of things.
