Why I love being a Democrat

That's a capital "D," as in party affiliation.

We Democrats are totally chaotic. I mean really freaking crazy chaotic. Take a look, for example, at every single Presidential Primary campaign since 1980. Not 1980 itself, but the non-incumbent years after that. On each occasion, the chalk Republican candidate has been the one to win the nomination. Meanwhile the Democrats keep pulling people out of left field. Think Dukakis in 88, Clinton in 92, heck Kerry in 04. These guys were not the ones, going into the primaries, that people were thinking would win. Admittedly there are only two instances for the Republicans (Dole and Bush the Younger). But the point is that Dems do crazy wacky things.

Last night was another example of it. Comptroller (for life) William Donald Schaefer lost the Democratic Primary for the spot. I didn't vote for him, I voted for Owens. The concept of booting an incumbent in a primary is pretty uncommon. Sure it happened the Lieberman (another Dem) in CT this year, but it's a rare occasion.

Will I vote for Franchot (the Dem candidate)?. I don't know. I'll need to size him up against his opponent.

I may be a "capital-D" Dem, but I'm not going to vote straight party line for the sake of party line.

We're just that wacky.
